RIDE BEYOND THE PISTE
What We’re All About
British Freeride is a non-profit community snowsports organisation providing
- Coaching and mountain safety training to skiers and snowboarders.
- Support for competitive freeride snowsports.
- Inspiration for a lifetime of adventure.
We currently run The Freeride Juniors Club which supports a squad of athletes through training and competition. This covers everything from preseason training at Glenmore Lodge , to competing at The Verbier Freeride Junior Tour and winter coaching in the Scottish mountains. Importantly we also run grassroots weekends open to all skiers and snowboarders aged 12+. These coaching and competition events give a taste of what we’re all about and inspire youngsters to see the whole mountain as the playground that it is!
Exploring the mountains in search of exhilarating descents is not something new. From Scotland to the Alps and beyond skiers and snowboarders have been doing just this for the last half century. In the early 90s the first competition based around the freeride format was hosted in Alaska. This kicked off developments towards the snowboard only Verbier Extreme and ultimately The Freeride World Tour. This tour now caters for athletes from ages 14 in the juniors right through to some of the best skiers and snowboarders in the five stop world series.
British Freeride was setup as a non profit organisation with the aim of inspiring, supporting and developing the growing community of skiers and snowboarders competing in freeride events and exploring the mountains beyond the resorts. In its first year it created unique events, award winning media and set the foundations for a development pathway for UK juniors to the Freeride World Tour. Looking forwards we have a vision to sustainably develop the organisation as a Community Interest Company, working with partners to make the sport we love accessible to all!
